The Cressvale E-Gazette is an independent local publication founded in 2014. It began as an emailed digest of courthouse and school items, added a website in 2017, and now publishes a small weekday report and a Friday calendar.
We cover county government, public works, libraries, schools, small business, community events, and other matters with a clear local effect. The newsroom is small. We cannot attend every meeting, and we do not pretend that an announcement is the same thing as reporting.
How we work
News articles are based on records, direct observation, interviews, or a clearly identified combination of those sources. Briefs supplied by an organization are labeled in the text. Candidate promises, official estimates, and predictions are attributed to the person or organization making them.
The E-Gazette does not endorse candidates. Election coverage is one county beat among many. When we summarize campaign proposals, we distinguish the proposal’s stated terms from claims about what it may accomplish.
Opinion, if published, is labeled separately from news. Advertising does not determine coverage, and paid material does not use the visual treatment of a reported article.
Ownership and independence
Editor and publisher Anita Roscoe operates the E-Gazette. Editorial decisions are made by the newsroom. Organizations mentioned in coverage do not review stories before publication, although a reporter may check a technical fact or seek a response before publishing.
Accountability
Substantive factual errors are corrected in the article and recorded on the corrections page. Quiet changes are limited to spelling, punctuation, formatting, and other edits that do not alter meaning.
