Talley Ridge Road will receive three spot repairs and two replacement curve signs this spring, but it is not among the roads scheduled for full resurfacing under the county’s newly released work list.
Public Works plans to mill and patch a failing section near the old quarry entrance, a low stretch that has settled beside a drainage pipe, and the westbound approach to the Sable Creek turn. The work is expected to require alternating one-way traffic rather than a full closure.
Residents have asked the county to resurface the full corridor, citing crumbling edges, limited shoulders, and poor visibility at several curves. The department’s pavement score places the road below the countywide target but above four higher-volume routes selected for this year’s resurfacing money.
At Monday’s commission meeting, Public Works director Nella Graves said spot repairs should hold the worst sections through another winter. She did not give a year for full resurfacing.
“It remains on the candidate list, but it did not rank above the funded roads on condition, traffic, and maintenance cost taken together,” Graves said.
Two faded chevron signs will be replaced at the Redfern curve before patching begins. The department is also reviewing whether brush can be cut farther back within the county right of way. Work on private trees would require an agreement with the property owner.
The spring list covers 18.7 miles of resurfacing countywide and dozens of smaller patches. Talley Ridge’s patching cost is estimated at $38,000 within the road-maintenance budget.
Crews expect to begin after several consecutive dry days. Public Works will place temporary signs at both ends of each work area; no exact day has been announced.
