The North Cressvale library branch will offer a smaller summer calendar than it did last year while two part-time positions remain vacant, but its weekly children’s programs and teen reading table will continue.
The branch removed three one-time craft workshops and reduced its family-film series from four dates to two. Tuesday preschool story time, the Thursday children’s program, and the drop-in teen reading table remain on the calendar from June through early August.
Branch supervisor Maribel Frost said staff protected recurring programs before scheduling special events. Employees from the main library will cover two busy weeks, but the system could not sustain that help throughout the summer.
“Families plan around the same day every week,” Frost said. “We chose consistency over a long list that might be canceled later.”
The branch will also continue distributing the library system’s summer reading logs and honor completed logs from any branch. Outdoor programs may move into the community room during heat or storms.
The vacancies affect desk coverage as well as events. The branch will keep its normal public hours but may temporarily close the small local-history room when only two employees are in the building.
