The Harker’s Ford Volunteer Fire Company auxiliary will collect clean winter coats and distribute a limited supply of sealed smoke alarms at the fire hall next Saturday.
Coats may be new or gently used and should be clean, dry, and placed in a tied bag. Organizers are seeking adult and children’s sizes but cannot accept other household goods during this collection.
The smoke alarms were purchased with proceeds from the auxiliary’s summer supper. They will be available while supplies last, one per household. Fire-company volunteers can explain the manufacturer’s placement instructions but will not enter homes or perform installations during the event.
Auxiliary member Darla Finch said combining the two projects saves setup time and catches families already preparing for colder weather.
“We had people asking about alarms at the coat table last year, so it made sense to stop sending them to a second place,” Finch said.
The collection runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire hall. Drivers should use the side lot so the front apron remains clear for emergency vehicles. The event will pause if the company receives a call requiring the lot.
Coats will be sorted by volunteers and distributed through local service partners rather than at the collection table. The auxiliary said it cannot reserve individual items in advance.
